Sewing For Kids Book Review

Who better to review a children’s sewing book than my very own daughter! Alexa Ward of @brooklynsewcial contacted me and asked if I would review her book, Sewing for Kids. I was sent the ebook in exchange. I thought to myself, I have been wanting to spend more time crafting and sewing with my daughter and this is the perfect time!

She was thrilled when I asked her if she would help me look through a children’s sewing book that is new and amazing! She was immediately inspired and went off making two projects in the book! If you know anything about my daughter, she just needs a tiny little push and she soars!

She was so inspired to make more than just what was in the book, and the ideas presented and skills learned helped her to create more ideas! She completed two projects in the book which are very simple and I will briefly talk about those below! Then she went off to craft her little heart out and mess with my sewing scraps for the rest of the day!

First thing is that this book prepares the reader or child extremely well to face anything related to sewing or crafting. It appeals to so many different kinds of creatives merely because the book covers so many different types of projects!

If you have a crafter or a sewer or a little bit of both, you will hit all of these very well with this book! There are even tips for adults!! Like release control!!! That is the number one thing I struggle with when my daughter is sewing or crafting and I know it could be better. I have to tell myself, just let her be!

There is a massive reference type introduction that talks you through all the basics and supplies and first steps. At the same time, if you don’t need these details, or your child is more advanced, then you can just skip straight to the projects.

Emma already knows how to sew a little but she picked the very first project because that girl is so crafty! She loves making little trinkets and things that can store something like this needle holder!

I swear, no napkin is safe in our household because she grabs it to make something and will not throw it away ha! That goes to show you, even if you are more advanced, you will enjoy this book. She chose to make the needle house that you see her cutting out below!

The next project she picked were the soothing lavender door hangers. This was such a good thing to make for her teacher this year for Christmas, and for it to be from her student!!!

We didn’t have lavender so we used lavender essential oil. They smell so so nice! I want a few for myself. Would be great for lingerie drawers as well.

The progression of projects throughout the book is very very well thought out and includes more advanced techniques as you move through it. The book takes you through hand sewing at first and then machine sewing. You build on what you have already learned and learning something new each chapter! It is very clear that Alexa has been doing this for many years because she covers everything! This is the perfect gift for your child or young adult and can help them make gifts for others as well! I think the age range is quite large. I even enjoy the book and the projects inside. My middle son, Oliver was even inspired to participate (he just turned 7)!!

I think this is a wonderful book and such a good gift for any age, girl or boy! I know my kids will love it as they continue to pull inspiration from it!!
