Anemone skirt with Unlikely fabrics!

Just a quick blog to show you that anything can be done with a pattern and the sky is the limit! I thought to myself, this FibreMood pattern is really simple and I think I can make this for my daughter. It is the Anemone skirt and you can find it here.

Let’s start with the big alteration I made in the pattern! I ADDED POCKETS! I mean obviously my little girl cannot live without pockets. I mean she doesn’t really go around collecting pebbles anymore but sometimes flowers and acorns haha. So pockets were born! I used a method that is really simple and explained in my blog post here where I added pockets to another skirt I made!

Now, let’s move onto fabric choice! I looked around at my fabric and discovered a lonely faux leather sitting over in the corner just waiting to be used! I asked my daughter if she liked the color, even though I knew she would…and of course she did! Then a faux leather skirt was born that is seriously super cute and stylish! I think that the only frustrating part was the tie. If I had to go back, I would just omit using it altogether and just use the elastic to hold the skirt up!

I also think that my IDT on the Pffaf that I use is very helpful for moving the fabric along. If you don’t have this, I highly suggest using a walking foot. I also had a leather needle which helped me pierce the fabric well. You will want something sharp and not blunt at all so that the fabric is pierced well and a big gaping hole isn’t left where the needle passed. If you need help with movement of the project under the pressor foot, you could also use tissue paper between two layers of fabric and also on the top and the bottom.

Now onto the knit version! When I started making this skirt with the faux leather, I kept seeing this See you at Six fabric leftover from a Fibre Mood Ellis sweater that I had made my daughter already. I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be so cute for her to have a matching skirt for her sweatshirt!! I haven’t gotten her to wear it together quite yet but it will be so cute when she does!!! I also have a blog post about making 3 Ellis Sweaters for all 3 of my kids here!!!

For this version, I decided to also do pockets and tighten the elastic at the waistline and omit the tie. I think that made everything a lot easier and I am happy with the result! I used all the common things for working with knits, including a stretch needle and my IDT technology on the Pfaff (or you can use a walking foot).

That’s all everyone!! I hope you enjoyed this blog and that you are inspired to make some garments with interesting and unexpected fabric choices!!!
